V. Accessible Content
5.2. Writing for the Web
5.2.1. Write Well
The first rule, when writing, for the web or for any support, is to use a proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. The use of poor grammar or spelling or of inadequate punctuation will carry along a very non professional image for the company or individual who edit the website. Moreover, if most readers may be able to fill in the blanks left by the mistakes, some users will not: because the language the content of the website is written in is not their mother language and because they don’t master it, because they don’t have the knowledge or ability to do so, or because the text does not make any sense to them.
Even if producing a prefect text from a grammar, spelling and punctuation point of view may not always realisable, it is important for any content manager to make sure that the texts are proofread by a professional if the company can afford it, or by using specific software (such as the Open Office writer or Microsoft’s Word) or online tools (such as Firefox's spellchecker or SpellCheck.net).
