V. Accessible Content
5.3. Non Textual Content
5.3.2. Audio Content
Again, depending on the nature of the audio content (background music or information recorded) and of the user’s disability, the problems encountered by users face with audio content will not be the same.
The presence of background music on a website will not disturb a deaf person, but if the audio content is a recording of an interview for example, the user will not be able to get the information from it. As a good practice, all audio content carrying information should come along with a text-base transcript.
On the other hand, the presence of background music on a website may be disturbing to other users (even those who do not have any disabilities), especially if the music launches itself when loading the website and if there is no option for the user to stop it. The good practice in this case would be to limit the use of background music, to make sure that it is up to the user to starts it, and in all cases to offer a “stop” button to the user.
